To understand social bookmarking it's important to understand the result. You can quickly see the results by comparing a search in Delicious vs. a general search in Google. Try it:

1. Choose a topic you are interested in (how about "social bookmarking"?)
2. Do a search in Google
3. Now for comparison, try the same search in Del.icio.us
4. This video explains Del.icio.us

Now here is where is gets interesting. The annual ISTE meeting in Florida in June 2007, was written about by participants many of whom are avid bloggers. There was agreement to tag these items with the tag "NECC07". By agreeing on this tag it is possible to search Del.icio.us and find many many articles about the conference workshops and topics.

A teacher could agree with students on a tag, and collectively build a library on any topic by using social bookmarking.
